The commissioner Office was amongst the earliest purpose-built
structures of the British Raj. Completed in 1850, almost a year
after the annexation of the Punjab, it continues to house the
offices of the Commissioner, Lahore Division. This and allied
offices are the administrative headquarters which supervise
the working of four districts: Kasur, Lahore, Okara and Sheikhupura. |

| The
red-brick façade stands, fortress like, guarding the
inner sanctum where the arts and crafts have been taught for
more than a century. This is the exterior as seen from the Mall
by the common man. The early morning rendition, with a slight
mist and no figure, accords the building an agelessness. |
